Halfway Through 2024 Book Wrap-Up

Hello friends!!

Can you guys believe that we are almost halfway through 2024? Like, woah, when did that happen? πŸ‘€ I made a goal of reading 100 books this year and I’m at 41 currently, so I’m a little behind, but it’s alright. πŸ˜‰

I thought today I’d share what my favorite and least favorite books of the year so far have been, as well as what books I’m excited to read for the last half of the year!!

Note: If you want a content review of any of these books, you can find my Goodreads profile here! I review tons of books and try to list the things that could be potential triggers for anyone.

Okay, let’s do this thing! πŸ’ͺ🏻

Β

~ Favorite Books Of 2024 (so far)

in no particular order because it’s so hard to number these πŸ˜†

The Accidental Cases Of Emily Abott Series by Perry Elizabeth Kirkpatrick

I am not a suspense/spy/thriller reader, but I’ve had my eye on these books for so long and I FINALLY took the plunge (The $5 plunge… I can’t believe I didn’t buy it before now) and bought my own copy! I inhaled the book and since then have bought the rest in the series. They are so binge-able, there are no CW’s (Content Warnings), and the two main characters (Emily & Brent) have a platonic relationship which is so rare in today’s market and I love it!

The Talionis Series by C.J. Milacci

You guys… I cannot CANNOT gush enough about these books. Not only is the author such a sweet person, but these books are some of my most favorite. 😍 The characters, the plot, the pacing, the theme, all of it, I just adore! And they’re independently published!

Loch Monster by E.G. Runyan

I got the privilege to be on the street team for this one as the author is a good friend of mine! This is a sweet YA story set in historical Scotland about a clan chief’s son and a fisherman’s daughter befriending the infamous Loch Monster! It was so good!!

The Starlore Legacy Series by Chuck Black

I binged this series way too fast! πŸ˜‚ I was on the street team for the latest book, Reclamation, but I hadn’t actually read the five books that came before it. I took care of that very quickly. 😜 They are so clean, probably the cleanest of all of his books. (Not that his other books aren’t clean, just this has the least amount of content in them! πŸ˜‰) The allegories are beautiful and I love the characters, especially Daeson and Raviel! πŸ₯°

The Wars Of The Realm Series by Chuck Black

If you know me, you know I love Chuck Black’s books. πŸ˜‚ And The Wars Of The Realm series has gotta be my ultimate favorite. The spiritual elements of this were just phenomenal, and definitely grew my faith. Not to mention the fact-paced plot and splendid characters! (I adore Sydney, she’s so relatable! πŸ₯°)

Live by Sadie Robertson Huff

Phew, this book. This book got me. When I finished reading it made me want to stand up, dance like no one’s watching, conquer all my fears, and really truly live. Highly recommend if you are feeling like you need a little boost in your zest for life.

~ Least Favorite Books Of 2024 (so far)

Oathbound by Victoria McCombs

This book wasn’t inherently bad, but I’m a picky reader when it comes to romance and the romance plot here was too much for me. Nothing explicit, but just too much. The plot was definitely interesting though!

Calculated by Nova McBee

(Unpopular opinion ahead 🫣>>) So… this book comes so highly rated by lots of people, but I just couldn’t with this book. I’m a pretty sensitive reader and the trafficking plot here was pretty disturbing. I wanted to keep reading because the plot and character were intriguing, but ultimately it was in my best interest to pause it because I wasn’t comfortable continuing to read it. (DNF’ed this one.)

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

Meh. That was kinda what I felt after reading the book. Wasn’t horrible, wasn’t awesome. I sort of skipped through the ending because I just wasn’t terribly interested in it. But, I do have to say it was a intriguing plot and well executed. Some CW’s that I wasn’t comfortable with, though.

Everland by Wendy Spinale

I didn’t get too far in this one because I was concerned about some of the content and the romance wasn’t my taste. But again, intriguing plot for sure. (DNF’ed this one.)

~ Books I’m Excited To Read The Rest Of The Year

The Accidental Cases Of Emily Abbott Series by Perry Elizabeth Kirkpatrick

Β

I’ve only read three of the nine books, so I’m super excited to get my hands on the rest and read them!

Enemy Of Talionis by C.J. Milacci

[not allowed to share the cover yet πŸ˜‰]

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this book! 😭 I’ve been counting down the days until her Kickstarter campaign launches!! If you want to support CJ, go hit follow on her Kickstarter so you can be notified when it goes live!!

Voices Of The Future: Stories Of Courage & Compassion by The Author Conservatory Graduates

I’ve already started reading this book and loved some of the stories! I can’t wait to continue reading it, and supporting these promising young writers! ☺️

Well, my friends, that’s all for now! That was a lot of books to work through! πŸ˜† I hope that you found some new summer reads in this, and meanwhile I’d love to chat in the comments!

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think of them? What have been some of your favorites and least favorites so far this year? I’d love to chat in the comments!

Until next time,

Bella πŸ‘‹πŸ»

  1. Oh my goodness, yes, I can’t believe that this first half of the year has gone by so fast! I’ve been really wanting to read Chuck Black books. Which series of his should I start with?

    1. I know, right? Then again, so much has already happened this year for me! It’s crazy how time works. πŸ˜†
Ah, now you’ve started something! πŸ˜‰ My favorite author! I think for you, Roxy, starting with the Starlore Legacy series would be great! The only CW’s would be very mild romance (there’s more romance in the two most recent books but it’s all still super clean! Black’s romance is very well done.), and later on there’s a few injuries that are gut-wrenching. I can give you more details if you need it, but all in all, I think those would be the best!! Let me know what you think, it’s SUCH a good series!! Totally binge-able too! πŸ˜‰

      1. Thanks! I’ve been really wanting to read more sci-fi lately! I believe that series is sci-fi, right? I’d better check those books out!!!!
