Hello!! Welcome to my blog, Bella Raine! My name is Bella Raine, and I am a Christ following, creative, outgoing teenager. This blog is about all things art, books, and writing!
You might think being a writer and an author are the same but let me shock your socks off right here and now.
They are not!Β
While you put your socks back on, let me tell you why.
A writer is one who writes.Β An author is one who has written AND been published.Β All authors are writers, but not all writers are authors.
I am happy to say that I am not only a writer, but an author! I have written something, and that something has been published! Today Iβm so excited to share with you, what that publication is, and how you can read it!Β
In the summer of 2022, I participated in a virtual writing camp, put on by the fantastic Jenny Cote and Libby McNamee, called Epic Patriot Camp. This was a life changing experience. Not only did I make sure to be lifelong friends, but I got amazing writing advice, one-on-one critiques on my writing from TWO award-winning authors, but the cherry on top is……..I got published!!
The premise of the camp was that each camper was assigned a real-life historical person from the Revolutionary War time period. We then had to research our character…and then research some more…and finally research a little more. (historical fiction takes a LOT of research)
My assigned character was…wait for it…drum roll please………King George III. Yes, I know what youβre thinking, and yes he was the ultimate bad guy in all of the Revolutionary War. But hey, it was a super fun challenge, and stretched me in ways I didnβt know possible. (do you know how hard it is to make THE bad guy in the Revolution, seem human? Hard!)
Each camper then wrote three chapters about their character, and each week of camp we all got live suggestions and critiques about our writing. We asked questions, learned more period specific information, gained the fundamentals of writing, researching, and even publishing, and enjoyed the wonderful comradery of a group of history loving, writing kids just like me! It was EPIC! Finally on September, 12th, 2022, our book, a compilation of each of our chapters, was released!
The Epic Story of 1776: 25 People, 13 Colonies, and 1 War
It spent time as the #1 New Release In Childrenβs Colonial Fiction! Huzzah! (thatβs what us Epic Patriot Campers say a lot! Huzzah just means “Yay”. )
Some of us campers, including myself, even got the opportunity to travel to Yorktown Virginia, to celebrate the 241st anniversary of the ending of the Revolutionary War! It was an unforgettable experience! Jenny, Libby, and 6 of us campers, had an official book signing at both the American Revolution Museum, and the Gallery At York Hall!
If you are wondering after reading this, where can I read this book, youβre in luck! You can buy it on Amazon, right here! All of the campers did such an epic job, and they are all worth reading!
Jenny & Libby are hosting the camp again this summer, and while registration is sold out, make sure to sign up for Jennyβs email list to get notified when registration opens up for next year!
Thanks so much for reading this post!!
See you around!
