Q+A With Me!

Hello friends!!

About a week ago, I sent an email out to my wonderful email subscribers asking for all of your questions promising to answer them in a Q+A post in celebration of a big subscriber milestone! Well you guys did not disappoint! I had so many amazing questions about all kinds of things and I had so much fun answering all of them! So here you go… your promised answers!

~ writing ~

Jodi asks… “When did you first realize you wanted to be an author, and what was your first project?”

My answer: “Around 2020, we were taking a drive in our area, and then all of the sudden I had a “God moment” and the thought popped into my mind… “I want to be an author.” And as they say… the rest is history! πŸ˜‰

“The first serious full length project I wrote is different than the first ever story I wrote and the latter is more interesting so… When I was really really little (I want to say like 5) I wrote out a one page script about a duck and a lion. The duck wanted to be friends and play but was scared the lion would eat him. They overcame their difficulties and went off to play! πŸ˜† It was so cute… πŸ₯°”

Anna asks… What is your favorite book?

My answer: The Green Ember by S.D. Smith!! But I think right now the Wars of the Realm series by Chuck Black is a close second!

Hadi asks… “How do you think of unique flaws for your characters?”

My answer: “Oo great question! I would say, observe people! Some of the best way to find inspiration is to look around you! Think of other story characters, think of people you’ve heard about, think about yourself- notice what makes up the people around you and then blend flaws together to create your own original characters! (because they don’t have to just have one flaw! After all, do people only have one?)”

Maya asks… “How long have you been writing?”

My answer: “I’ve loved reading and writing basically since I was a baby but I began seriously writing in 2022!”

Grace asks… “Who/what inspired you to become a writer?”

My answer: God is the one who truly my Inspiration. I wouldn’t be a writer where it not for Him plopping the idea into my mind! So He is the reason I am a writer! I do not believe I would have stuck with writing as long as I have without my whole family’s support. Coming to all my events, driving me everywhere, helping, editing, supporting me financially- they’re the best. πŸ’™ My mom is such a support and encouragement, and my true hero! 😘 My sister is my best friend, and number one fan! She reads every single thing I write, gushes about all my characters, and begs me to write more every day! She is such an inspiration! ❀️

Elliete asks… “What is one of your favorite things you’ve written? Why?”

My answer: Hmm… this is a hard question! I think there are a few. First, my novel From Lost To Loved- this novel is really really special to me and I believe is divinely inspired so the journey with the Lord of writing that has been beautiful. πŸ™πŸ» Another noteworthy thing I’ve written in my mind is a novella dualogy! It’s special to me because of how fast I wrote it, and the mark of growth I saw in myself while I was writing it! And the last thing is my poems. I’ve written a bunch of poems, some that I’ve shared with people, and others that no one reads but me, but writing poetry is a really intimate moment for me! 😊

Grace asks… “What’s your favorite (and least favorite!) part of character development?”

My answer: Hehe… this probably doesn’t count but I LOVE making character collages and assembling Pinterest boards for my characters! 😜 Least favorite part would be when I realize that I haven’t developed it as much as I should! πŸ˜‰

Grace asks… “Who’s one author (still alive or not) who you would love to meet, and what’s one question you would ask them?”

My answer: C.S. Lewis most definitely! He is my author hero and one of the people I’m most looking forward to talking with in heaven! Hmm… I would probably talk to him about what it was like to write Narnia- a book that was divinely inspired and has allegorical elements- as it’s really similar to my process/journey with my book! πŸ₯°

~ blogging ~

Chloe and Molly ask… “What’s your favorite blog post?”

My answer: Great question! I think it’s got to be this one. It was completely unplanned. I totally just wrote it as a “stream of consciousness” thing and after sharing it with my family they just gushed about it and convinced me I should share it with you guys!

Abby asks… “I’d like to know what you did for your blog design with wordpress! What did you use? Did you do it all yourself? What hosting do you use?”

My answer: Ah yes! Good question!! So I mostly did it all myself, but I had a family friend help get things started for me and show me the basics! (he’s still my 911-help-i-wrecked-my-site πŸ˜†) I use WordPress like you said, and have the Elementor plugin installed to help with the ease of design. The bones of the site are the Hello Elementor theme but I’ve customized it so much it doesn’t even look like the theme anymore! πŸ˜‰ And for hosting (and my domain) I use Siteground, which I’ve been really pleased with!

Jessica asks… “Would you recommend blogging for someone who plans to mainly write fiction? If so, what would you recommend the said fiction writer blog about?”

My answer: “Yes I would! I only plan on writing fiction and don’t have any non-fiction plans in my writing future but running a blog has been just so much fun! It’s taught me so much, and is truly a highlight!! As for content, it helps a lot that I have a few interests that I could blog about (books, art, and writing). Technically you can write about anything you want, but if you want your platform of a blog to be able to help your author career (which if you want to be published, it really matters) then I would suggest blogging about something related to writing. For example if I just blogged about spinach boysenberry smoothie recipes then it would be really weird for me all of the sudden to talk about my book release! πŸ˜‰”

~ random ~

Shiloh asks… “Where would you like to see yourself in ten years?”

My answer: I see myself in ten years, living in a small cottage (or tiny house on wheels) on my parent’s land (that they haven’t bought yet but they will 😜), perhaps near a pond. Hopefully have a few books published and run my art business.

Amelia asks… “What is your favorite color to paint with?”

My answer: Ah great question! So if you couldn’t already tell from my blog aesthetic, my favorite color is turquoise so I love painting with all shades of turquoise/teal/aqua/mint/seafoam/etc…. But some of my other favorite colors and combinations are navy blue/gold, burgundy, anything metallic, and anything gold!

Edan asks… “Do you talk with a southern accent?”

My answer: Haha! What a question! πŸ˜† I think I have to admit… yes slightly. At least according to people I meet! I have some friends who live in other parts of the country/world and I asked them once on a Zoom if I had a southern accent and they all agreed I did! It’s a rather light southern accent, with not a whole lot of twang but every now and then I’ll say a word and realize how “country” it sounded. 🀠

Maya asks… “Have you ever tried banana cream pie?”

My answer: No I haven’t!! Banana pudding, yes, but not banana cream pie! (at least I don’t think so! πŸ˜‰)

Edan asks… “Worst food you’ve ever tried?”

My answer: Oh easy… chocolate covered blueberries or black licorice.

Roxy asks… “If you could choose to be friends with one book character, who would it be?”

My answer: Oo either Jo March (we have a lot in common!) from Little Women or Heather Longtreader (we also have a lot in common!) from The Green Ember. I feel like I would get along smashingly with both those girls! (and I wouldn’t mind visiting their worlds either! πŸ˜‰)

Amelia asks… “I wasn’t going to ask about sweatshirts, but now I’m curious. How many do you have?”

My answer: Ha! Well I am a hardcore sweatshirt collector! (which my bank account isn’t pleased with because of how expensive sweatshirts are πŸ˜…) I just went to count and I found about 15 sweatshirts/hoodies, but that’s probably not all of them so I’d say between 15-20! What can I say- I love ’em!

Edan asks… “What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever done?”

My answer: Put a carrot stick in between my teeth and have a giraffe lean down, wrap his long tongue around it and pull it out. 😏 (it was hilarious!)

Gemma asks… “If you could travel to any fictional world, where would you travel?”

My answer: Natalia from The Green Ember, easy! I love all of the characters, and wouldn’t mind spending a day with all of them! 🀩

Esther asks… “What is your testimony? What’s your story of making a decision to follow God and how has He changed your life?”

My answer: Aw I love this question, and am so happy to answer it. I’ve been surrounded by devout Christians since before I was even born. I’ve raised in a house of God, but I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was seven years old. How has he changed my life? Honestly… how hasn’t he changed it? He is in everything I do. I couldn’t live my life without the ever present, ever faithful, ever loving God. He has called me to live my life in a way that’s different from so many people. And that can be hard. It’s hard to be so “counter-culture” in what I wear, what I watch, what I read, what I say or do, but I believe that’s the path that He’s called me to. Having Jesus live in me, changes everything, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the entire world. He is my redeemer, my savior, my inspiration, my provider, my protector, my comfort. He is the reason I get up in the morning, He is the one who knows everything about me, and calls me “daughter”. I will praise and glorify His name till there is no breath left in my lungs. β€οΈπŸ™πŸ»

Well that’s all for today, friends! So many of you lovely people sent in questions and I didn’t have time to get to all of them today so keep your eye out for part two!

Was your question answered? What did you think of my answers? Have you ever tried chocolate covered blueberries?? πŸ˜‰ I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Until next time,
